Biography

Jon is the son of Richard and Edith (Cunningham) Blodgett. His father owned an insurance agency in Lynn and later became the head of the Marine Theft Bureau of the Massachusetts Environmental Police. His mother, an Ipswich native, attended Lynn School of Nursing and was a nurse at Salem and Union Hospitals for 35 years.

Jon graduated from Peabody High School in 1972. He was Class President and a stand-out outfielder and hitter for the Peabody Tanners baseball team. He went on to play baseball for the Princeton Tigers and graduated from Princeton University in 1976. He was inducted into both the Peabody High School Athletic and Distinguished Career Halls of Fame and received the Pride of Peabody Award in 2004.

After earning his law degree from Suffolk University in 1983, he became an Essex Assistant District Attorney. He prosecuted cases in all district courts in the county. In 1986, he established his own law practice, where he practiced criminal law as a trial attorney.

He coached countless youth sports teams in Peabody, chaired the Parks Commission and the School Building Committee and served on the Planning Board.

As District Attorney, Jon has been recognized for his leadership and commitment to fighting crime and protecting the interests of victims. In 2004, he was named Fraud Fighter of the Year by the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners. In 2005, Governor Mitt Romney appointed him to serve on the state’s Victim and Witness Assistance Board. In 2006, he was elected president of the Massachusetts District Attorney’s Association. In 2007, Governor Deval Patrick appointed him to the Governor’s Council to Address Sexual and Domestic Violence. He was also recognized by HAWC (Healing Abuse Working for Change) for his ongoing commitment to ending domestic violence. In 2008, he co-chaired the Governor’s Anti-Crime Council’s urban violence committee with Attorney General Martha Coakley. In 2009, he was named a national co-chair of the American Bar Association’s Criminal Justice Section and assigned to the “Problems with the Elderly” Committee by Brooklyn, New York District Attorney Charles Joseph Hynes.

Jon and his wife Judy live in Peabody in the home where they raised their three children, Jon, Ryan and Lauren. In his free time, Jon enjoys spending time with his family, attending sporting events of all kinds and spoiling his new granddaughter.
